Federated Industrial Labs
Software, produced industrially.
Federated Industrial Labs is the public arm of Federated Industrial. We design and operate autonomous production systems: software infrastructure that plans, implements, tests and documents software under the direction, review and legal ownership of its operator.
Work that reaches release quality is published openly. Our languages, libraries and tools are released with full source code and documentation, and are engineered to carry as few external dependencies as practical.
Terra
Terra is our management system for autonomous software production. It plans and schedules work, dispatches it to automated build and test systems, and verifies the results before release. Terra is the laboratory's primary programme and the platform on which our production methods are developed and evaluated.
What we do
Autonomous production
Our software is produced by autonomous systems that design, implement, test and document code in sustained, supervised runs. Direction, review and ownership remain with the operator, and every stage of production is logged and auditable.
Languages of our own
Where general-purpose tooling is not sufficient, we develop our own. KFL, the Konsole Form Language, was created for internal systems and is now published openly, together with the toolkits built on it.
Libraries built to last
Our libraries are self-contained, fully documented and tested against realistic failure modes. They are designed to be audited quickly and maintained over long service lives.
Federated by design
Each component is designed to operate independently, with a deliberately small dependency surface. Adopting one of our tools does not require adopting an ecosystem, and auditing one does not require auditing a supply chain.
